Long Time

I haven’t written on here in a while. I think mostly because there is so much going on in life all around me, that most of the time I get “stuck”. It’s bizarre. Because there are days where I want to conquer and complete something like crazy, and then other days where it all looks so daunting, that I just get stuck. You add to that sleepless nights, and I become even more fogged.

I have struggled a lot lately with Restless Leg Syndrome, which wakes me up every night. I had this issue when I was pregnant with Nick, too, but this time around seems more intense. Then, to add to the sleepless nights, Nicholas has been sick for the past week. Poor guy has had a fever and has been coughing like crazy. I have taken him to the chiro 3 times, tried all kinds of cough meds and natural remedies, and then took him to a new-to-us pediatrician yesterday. She was so great! They are traditional medical doctors but also practice a lot of natural and homeopathic remedies. And she was so informative in explaining the process of what is happening with this virus in Nick’s body (which I love!). They did a strep test, and he didn’t have it (thank God, bc we certainly don’t need that around our house). So, we are hoping he will get better in the next couple of days.

So, that is the long and short of where we are right now. I have more things to write, but I’ll save it for another post.

The Cold WON

sickAll week long I have battled the onset of a cold. I really thought I had the thing beat. I could feel tinges of it and then I would pop some immune supplements, and it would go away. Well, this morning I woke up with the blasted thing in FULL BLOOM (probably due to the sugar-coated donut (or 3) that I ate last night, which I’m sure did not help my immune system with the sugar and food allergens I am allergic to)!

So, I have been in bed much of the day! And my nose is now dripping like a faucet and I have this continual icky feeling in the top of my mouth/throat! NOT FUN!

Off to bed I go, once again for the day. Hopefully and PRAYERFULLY, I will be much better tomorrow!

Dentist Results

First of all, let me just say how surprised I am to hear that some of you all actually do enjoy going to the dentist! I mean I have never had a bad report, or major work, and yet I hate it. I just hate that feeling of someone probing under your gums to clean off the plaque! And the taste!!! UUGGHH!!
But I will say that my visit yesterday was quite pleasant! Not that I would go as far as to say I enjoyed it. But I really liked the dentist office where I went. It’s where Jason has gone for years. And yes, I did say where Jason goes…he is quite unique in this regard (as oppossed to typical men stereotypes)…he actually goes to the dentist very consistently and even makes his own appointments! Anyways, I was so impressed with the advancements of technology in these last several years that I have not been going. They took digital x-rays of my teeth and I was able to see them right away on the computer screen next to me. When they laid me back, there was a flat screen tv on the ceiling that I was able to view while undergoing the probing and cleaning. And they are even so savvy that they send their reminders on e-mail!
As for my report – they were very impressed with how clean my teeth were, especially not having gone for years (guess my natural toothpaste is working)! There was very minimal bleeding! And no cavities! So, my record for no cavities will stand!
And the kids…well, they didn’t get to go today afterall. Unfortunately Natalie was throwing up yesterday, so I figured it wouldn’t be a good idea to go today! 🙂 She was kind of bound to get it, considering a kid threw up in the pool Tues before their swim lessons and then that afternoon, a little girl threw up in her dance class! She is doing better today, but still achy breaky and complaining about her belly some. I am hoping she wakes up from her nap feeling better.

5-A-Day Fruit/Veggie Chart

5-A-Day logoHave you heard about the 5-A-Day program that is being promoted? Such websites as http://www.5aday.gov/ or Dole’s http://www.5aday.com/html/colorway/colorway_home.php talk more about it.

In pursuit of helping us to eat healthier, I created a new chart to help our kids eat more fruits and veggies. Natalie and Nicholas have really enjoyed it! So, I posted it on my health blog to offer it to people as a tool for their kids too. How cool would that be if it is used somewhere all over the world and I created it?!

So, if you would like to see it or even try it for your kids, you can check it out here.

Another One

I had another Ocular Migraine last night!

It is so bizarre! It’s like all the sudden there are parts of my vision that become blurry or even portions of it are all jagged. Thankfully I don’t get the horrible headache like most people associate with migraines, because this is Ocular only effecting vision. I did get a mild headache and got really tired. So, I went on to bed, which was good because Jason is out of town and I have a hard time sleeping when he is not here.

My Dr said these might be related to my hormones. Great! What else can hormones do to screw up my body!

I found a picture series that kind of describes what it is like:

Jigsaw

Might as well eat what you want, we are all going to die some day.” This is literally what I said most of my life.

I remember thinking that health, nutrition, and alternative therapies were so weird and quacky!

Well, I have lots of sinus problems, hypothyroid, hormone imbalance, stomach issues, and IgA deficiency (an immune deficiency). Some of these things I lived with most of my life, but honestly didn’t really care that much about at the time. In fact, living like that was all I knew. I never dreamed what it would be like to be healthy. In fact, I thought it was normal to not be able to breathe through my nose very well, get sick frequently, and to have an upset stomach every now and then (which later progressed to Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

When my daughter, Natalie was a baby she had several Urinary Tract Infections, and they discovered she had a reflux in her ureter that was causing them and might continue to cause them until she grew out of it at like age 2 or 3. Doctors wanted to put her on an anti-biotic everyday for a year as a preventative measure. There was a check in my gut that thought to look into it more. So, I did. I came home and looked on the internet for anything I could find out. I also was referred to a pediatrician MD who was open to alternative treatments. So, she told us about a natural product called Clear Tract and it worked!!!

It was through that experience that I became more open to alternative treatments and more natural approaches. Afterall, if this could work in that situation, what other natural approaches might there be for other health challenges. And that opened up a WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE for me!

So, for the past couple of years, I have been so intrigued by it and would say it is now a passion of mine. I have looked into so many different facets of health and nutrition, and continue to look and learn more all the time. I have discovered that it is like a PUZZLE! There are so many different aspects to our bodies, the world, and culture we live in that effect our health. There is no real “quick-fix”, which is really hard for me. I am more of an instant gratification person, so that can be very frustrating to me at times. I want a Dr. or someone just to tell me how to fix the symptom or take a drug to make me feel better quickly. But I am learning that it is a process, and finding the different pieces of the puzzle takes time.

Some of my friends mentioned that I should blog about it all and share some of the things I am learning and find. So, I am deciding to give it a try. Afterall, if what I am learning can benefit someone else, then that would be awesome! Now, the things I plan to blog about are anywhere from everyday issues, simple things to implement, great products, to more deeper complexities. So, if you have health problems and want to know more about them…or better yet, you don’t have problems and don’t want to either (therefore you want to work on Prevention), then I invite you to join me. Either way…Enjoy!

Here is the link to my new blog entitled, “Finding the Pieces to the Health Puzzle” it is at http://www.jigsaw.wordpress.com.
