The Picture

So, a few of you have requested to see the infamous photo of Mr. Rat. I will post it here in a thumbnail for those of you that don’t really want a large view of the thing. But if you want to see it bigger, just click on it. I will say that it is not really gory, as in bloody (the red in the pic is the beef jerky), but more spine-chilling (if you’re like me). I mean, that thing has been in MY HOUSE! Oh, and I don’t like the beady eyes!

So, did you look at it bigger?

Schnaappp!

That is what we heard at about midnight last night! It was from the rat trap we set up just 30 minutes before, when we went to bed. I couldn’t believe it! I think there was an aspect of me that wondered if we would really ever catch it.

So, there we were in bed. I, of course, not sleeping because I am still coughing up my lungs. I was laying there praying that God would please take this cough away and was about to drift off, when…schnaapp! Jason and I quickly got out of bed to go see if it really did work. He was indeed in the trap! Let me just tell you…that was not a pretty picture! We did take a picture of it, but I am just not sure you all would like to see that! Am I right?

Another Unwanted Guest

That’s right, my friends. This time it is not a snake, but a RODENT! At least that is what we suspect and let me tell you why.

I have been sleeping a couple of times in Natalie’s room (yes, that’s what happens when Jason and I are fighting!) 🙂 Just kidding. Actually, Natalie has been really sick with her belly this week. I was going to write about that and post the over-dramatic happenings of the child, but unfortunately I came down with a cold and didn’t get much of anything done! Let’s just say the girl does not handle pain well at all! So, anyway, there have been a couple of nights that she was so miserable that we had her come in our bed with us. But then, I couldn’t sleep with her in there, so I went to sleep in her bed.

The first night, I was asleep in her bed and awoke suddenly to what I thought was a knock on her window. I, of course, flipped out, went to wake up Jason, and we searched around trying to figure out where it came from. I told him, then, that I thought maybe it was coming from something in the wall. He assured me that wouldn’t be possible since there are 2x4s in the wall. So, I went on back to sleep.

Well, last night, I was in there again and realized very quickly that it had to be a creature in the wall! I just kept hearing scratching and various noises on and off. This was all at 4:30 in the morning, mind you! It was disturbing this time and I couldn’t go back to sleep. Especially with a potential creature right next to my head. So, I moved out to the couch and did manage to get back to sleep.

We were in a mad rush for church this morning (due to the lack of sleep – ho, who am I kidding…we are always late to church), and didn’t pay much attention to anything. When we got home and were making lunch, I noticed about a 1/4 of a banana eaten and gnawed at! We also noticed lovely shavings of particle board under one of our kitchen cabinets! The thing had dug its way through and came right in our kitchen and helped himself! Yikes!

So, what to do now?! The thing has obviously found food and will come back for more. Jason is going to buy some sort of trap tonight and place it by his little hole. Hopefully it will work. Although, I am not sure I want to be the one to discover if it did work, if you know what I mean! Hopefully I can sleep well tonight knowing there is a critter trying to make residence in our home!

The Answer Is…

Wow…you guys were impressive in your photo analysis! From what direction it was shot, to the cast of the shadow, to the size of the rocks! I’m not really surprised that no one got it exactly right because we were quite surprised when we discovered it on our recent get away. Allison was right, that it was from our trip while Jason’s parents kept the kids for us. We had some Marriott points that we redeemed in Hutchinson Island, Florida.

That’s right…these pictures were taken right here in Florida! We were completely in love with this area of the island! We both loved the rocky coast in California and Hawaii, but had never seen a rocky coast in the state of Florida. I wish we had discovered it earlier in our trip because I could’ve sat there all day and listened to those waves crash against the rocks! What a magnificent display of power!

So, if you ever have a chance to go to Hutchinson Island, I highly recommend it! It is off the coast of Stuart, just above West Palm. Only like 2 1/2 hours from Orlando. Here is a picture of the sunset we enjoyed there on the Indian River side. Which is another thing, the Island got to a point where it was only a little wider than the two-lane street we were on. With the Indian River on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side. Very cool.

Administers of Justice

judgeMy kids must have decided it was there responsibility to be Administers of Justice.

Setting 1 – Chick-Fil-A.

Kids are in the playground while Jason and I are chatting with his cousin and her husband. A mom yells out the door of the play area, “There’s a girl in here with her little brother, and they are pushing and swinging at another little boy.” Immediately my heart sunk to my stomach and I thought, “Oh no, those are our kids.” Jason quickly went in and retrieved them from the large tunnel and had a talkin’ to them. As it turns out, this other kid was apparently “Saying dirty words to us and being mean” (as they put it). To which we of course explained that this was not the way to handle it and did all the stuff of asking them how should they have handled it, what will they do different next time, etc.

Setting 2 – Park Playground

Natalie runs up and explains to my friend, Michele that this little boy (he was actual quite bigger) was growling at them and had made her little girl cry. Well, we all thought that was the end of the issue. But, when I went to tell my kids it was time to go home, I observed my Nicko interacting with this boy. I was wondering if they were playing, then noticed Nicko grabbing a handful of mulch to throw at the boy. That’s right, my sweet boy! I immediately told him to put it down, went threw the whole “that’s not nice. I want you to say your sorry.” etc. When we got home I talked to him more about it in his room and he said that this little boy was saying mean things to them. To which I asked, “Who is them?” So, turns out it was Natalie and a couple other kids too. When I asked Natalie about it, she said, “We told him that he needed to apologize!” and that this boy was saying mean and dirty words, so they started throwing mulch at him and saying mean stuff back. I, then, go through the whole spiel about how those are not appropriate ways to handle it and what should they have done, etc.

So, I sure hope my kids get this concept quickly before we have a setting number 3 or one of them gets clobbered by a kid who will do more then just say dirty words to be mean!!!
