Back from Texas

Hi Y’ALL! I went to Texas last week and had a super time! I was there for a conference with Priority Associates women, but went a day early to see a friend and the house we lived in there. For about 6 years of my childhood, we lived in Texas. Four of those years, we lived in The Woodlands, TX. Which is an amazing place! Great community, land development, lots of trees, super nice people, etc.

We had such great memories there. In fact, when our parents told us we were moving to Kentucky, I asked what state that was in! Texas was just so wonderful. The house we lived in will never be forgotten in my mind. It was beautiful! And my bedroom was like a princess room. It was on the second floor in the section of our house that looked like the tower of a castle. My ceiling in my room even went all the way up in a peak. I loved it!

And yes…I did get to see inside our house! I was so nervous…but decided I would regret it if I didn’t at least ask. I mean, how often do I go to Texas?! The lady was so nice, and remembered every detail of our house before the changes they made – the wall paper, all the blue carpet (my mom was obsessed with blue then), and more. But most of the house was actually still the same. My eyes are tearing up just recalling it. In fact, there was a time the lady was speaking of her grandkids that come over and I thought to myself, “That could’ve been my mom with her grandkids.” awww. Here is a picture of our house:

It was all so great! God was so good to me! I had been so nervous about going to Texas by myself – flying, renting a car, driving, staying at a friend of a friend’s home, all by myself! But it all went so well!!! I truly felt God’s protection and hand leading me the whole time!

And the conference was great too! It was just so nice to be with fellow staff from all across the country and have great, quality conversation, and play Farkel (of which I am the Champion!!!)

Waste Management

wast management truckI had a personal visit from our Waste Management personnel the other day! Who knew they did house calls?!

Well, you see, I called them with a request last week. For some reason, they have decided to start their pick-up on our street at the crack of dawn! The crack of dawn, I tell you! Seriously, some days it is as early as 5:50 AM! And as we know…that is way too early for me! And this has not always been the case for our Waste Management service. I mean, I have lived here for several years, and it has never been this early.

The problem that really arises from this issue, is the fact that my kids love the garbage truck! They are fascinated with it! And they want to see the garbage truck when it comes. Even when it is 5:50 in the morning!!! So, twice a week now, for a couple of months, they will wake up yelling and sometimes upset because they are afraid they are going to miss it! To which, my reply is that it is way too early to be doing this sort of thing! Most of the time they look through the blinds to see it, but they end up fighting over fitting in the window. And let me tell you, that is a load of fun to wake up to! We, of course, tell them to go back to bed, but that never lasts.

So, therefore I will lay in bed, in denial that this is really happening at the crack of dawn! Eventually getting up to the two kids that are either so happy and loud, or fighting and loud!

I figured they obviously were on a different route all those years before, maybe they could go back to that route. So, I called and made a request. Wondering if it would really do any good, praying that it would, and hoping!

So, they came to my door to inquire about my request. I was so amazed and so embarrassed. But I went on to explain what I just explained above. To which they apologized for them coming at 5:50 because they aren’t supposed to start until 6:00. Ha! We were all laughing about it and here are some of the things I said:

“Well, I just don’t think 6:00 is very courteous. I mean, my momma taught me never to call anyone before 9:00.”

“I seriously can not keep starting my day that early with these munchkins (noting Nicholas behind me) starting their fighting right away! That just makes for a very long day and not a happy momma!”

The guys told me they start that early because it gets so hot here and they can’t have their men passed out on the side of the road. “Well, I don’t want that either. But it is starting to get cooler now.”

“Please don’t say no right now, why don’t you just pray about it for a little while!”

So, we had fun laughing and discussing it all. And they didn’t say no. They are going to work on it. I suggested even starting at the back of our neighborhood bringing them to us at 7:00 or 7:30. We’ll see.

Dancing Girl!

Last weekend, we went to some of our friends’ wedding. It was really fun! It was an outside wedding and they invited the kids to come. Well, Natalie was beside herself! Seeing a real bride walk down the aisle and marry the prince – wow!

There were several other little girls there and Natalie kept watching them from a distance. Finally she asked Jason if he would go ask them if she could dance with them. Notice I said HE. She is so funny about that stuff. She loves people, but is very shy at first. Anyway, he did ask them. To which they let her join in. And from that point on the girl danced her heart out! I think she danced for like the next 2 hours!!

Nick, on the other hand, was not very interested in dancing. He was pretty tired.

It’s My Birthday

happy bday
I have always loved my birthday and have great anticipation of it each year. This year has been no different.

As I was thinking about how I wanted to post about it on my blog, I realized that I actually blogged about it last year too. Which shows that I have been writing on this blog for over a year now. I thought it would be fun to look back through the blog year and see what was memorable.

My first post here was Sep.1, 2006 where I wrote about our Uninvited Visitor.
My favorite posts are about the kiddos –
Naked Temper Tantrums
The Information Age
Funny Things Natalie Says
Can You Beat God?
Funny Nicko

I also enjoyed looking back through the ups and downs of the “In My Brain” posts –
I Spy
Crusade Conference
Amazing Day!

So, it’s been a good year! God is faithful, amazing, good, and has blessed me tremendously! Thanks for reading along with me through the year!

Ok…so I really like the show Gilmore Girls. In fact, I have missed out on some of the last few seasons because we had a Life Group on Tuesday nights and my husband won’t get a DVR. 🙂

Well, my friend Karin has come to my rescue and loaned me her copies of the show on DVD. It has been awesome! True confessions here…one night Jason was out watching a football game with a friend, so I watched not one, not two, but FIVE episodes in a row of Gilmore Girls! It was so fun!

So, Karin also just blogged about which character from the show she is more like. I also took the quiz and I am most like Sookie! Here is what the results said –

Which Gilmore Girls Character Are You?

You are Sookie. You are bubbly, fun, and a little klutzy. You are devoted and passionate–sometimes to the point of obsession.
Find Your Character @

Well, I may just go watch an episode right now.
